Chris Dabb - Coromandel Amodeo Bay

Chris, brings his wealth of knowledge to the SpotX team! A true blue Coromandel fisherman, Chris has spent much of the last 25 years out on the Hauraki Gulf building on his skills and working commercially out on the water.
His enthusiasm for all types of fishing is unmistakable, combine that with years of experience working this unique and thriving fishing ground, and you’re in for an unforgettable fishing experience with a top kiwi guide.
Chris’s trips target Snapper and Kingfish from the surrounding islands out from Amodeo bay on the Western side of the Coromandel Peninsula up to Fletchers Bay and Channel Island.

EQUIPMENT ON BOARD

SPEED JIGGING SET: When we are Speed Jigging the Pins around Coromandel we use the Shimano Ocea Jigger 4000p, spooled with 80lb X8 J-Braid with the Shimano Anarchy 1.52m 1pc overhead jig 501. This set is built for power to holdbig Kings and has a star drag so you can keep putting the HURT on those King's. Also one of the smoothest drag systems out.

LIVEBAITING The combo we use forthis technique is the Talica 12 loaded with 80lb X8 J-Braid also on the Anarchy1.52m 1pc overhead jig 501. This set up is lightweight and is easily handled by all clients. Its lever drag system is quick and effective, also a high gearratio @ 5.7:1 means those kingies are coming in fast. STRAYLINE & FLASHERS. The gear we use for both techniques is the Shimano Shadow X Nano 7' 1pce 6-10kgwith the Shimano Baitrunner 8000D spooled with SUFIX Super 14kg - 30lb Mono.This setup is simple but yet strong when hooked up to big Snapper, also very light weight and flexible, so the anglers can feel the fight from the moment they hook up and never get tired. Using the Baitruuner is a breeze, by letting that XOS Snapper take line so there is no friction, then to engage just crank the handle and BOOM hooked up yet again.

SOFTBAITING & JIGS We use the CatchPro Series 2 pce 3-8kg 7'3" (221cm) Spin Rod With the Shimano Stradic4000fl loaded with 30lb X8 J-Braid this combo is a lethal weapon giving the angler top control over the jigs and casting abilities. The long and very flexible rod is to take the strain off the Braid (Braid has no stretch) and angler giving them a much more enjoyable fight
