Great winter fishing when weather permits :-)
So the weather has not been great to say the least, however we are still managing to get out there amongst it and the fishing has been generally quite good.
Kingies have been a little tricky lately with no spots being consistent. We have been picking up fish of various sizes and in various places. Some days the nice 15kg ones have been in close, but not every day though, and when we have been able to go out deep, they are normally there on various depth, fat and beautiful. But so are the sharks! As a reward landing a half kingi or losing some gear we have got quite a few mako-shows, which is not a bad scenery! The rats are entertaining us and our guests around on the snapper spots close in, lots of fun!
Snapper have been good in the shallows still but have slowed down and become a little more challenging to catch. We have got a few 10+lb last week and plenty of the pan size plus, like the 40cm+. Typical winter fishing for them now.
Hapuku has been ok and getting better in the last monthor so. Recently having fat pukas with fat roes coming on board puts a smile on the dial. Also gemfish, bass and tarakihi coming out of the deep. We are blessed!
The good fishing is supported by a little more prolific bait fish than they had been. Makes it easier and we can get out there quicker!Thank you for that!
Squid have been a little slow lately though a few seals and bad weather has not helped. But it will change, still fun to try!
Tight lines!
