FULL ACTION ON THE DEEP REEFS

First Snapper caught with roe and hungry Hapuka!

Spring is here meaning we have all the seasons in one day! Fishing in the Bay still have some of the winter character left with good variety of species in the bin. Nice size Snapper of5-8lb is caught regularly in the middle, not too far out and not too deep! And last week we found roe in one of them. Unfortunately, we could not tell before it was too late.

The Kingfish start to get a bit harder, which is a spawning sign. Not hungry and petty scattered. The last few weeks we have had pretty stable catches at 10-15 kg, out around the Cape Brett. Last Saturday we got one when we were snapper fishing close in the Bay.Unexpected, but nice!

As expected this time of the year, it is full action out on the Deep Reefs, 200-300m. Hapuka, Bass,Blue Nose, Gemfish are all hungry and hook on pretty easily. Last week Fish-Of-The-Day was a 23kg Hapuka. Check out our Hapuka Specials and the Rigs in the shop

Last but not the least, the squid fishing is about to culminate on Russell wharf – they are Big,Plenty and Yummy! We discover new ink marks every morning that reveal the nights exercises. Don’t miss the squid season, the water will warm up soon!

As always, keep it tight and keep alert!

Tight lines,
