Fish, birds, whales, dolphins... Spring time and the water is sparkling of life!
The snapper have moved into the bay in large numbers getting ready for spawning. Good numbers and sizes are here on the regular spots being the patches of foul throughout the main Bay Area. Old story though. When not on the bite fishing is hard but if you are there at bite time it is easy fishing. We have let the breeding ones go as long as they are still in good shape, as they mostly are, luckily!
Kingies are moving into the bay in good numbers as well. The deeper reefs are fishing well for these guys as well as on the bait schools that are holding in the middle of the bay.
Hapuku have slowed down some what as they have finished spawning and have spread out. They are still about but you may need to prospect around a bit.
The odd patch of warm water has started to show up out wider so thoughts are coming for the up coming game season.
There have been a large number of whales and dolphins around with these guys producing some spectacular work ups.
Squid fishing is still on with some great catches on the wharf and on the rocks around Tapeka point.
Tight lines.
