Spot-X Fishing Charters expands with Game fishing with the best sea keeping boat in its class!

Spot-X Fishing Charters is launching a second charter boat in the Bay of Islands!

Our new beauty is a 40 feet game boat that will offer you top quality Game charters, Kingfish charters, Snapper charters, charters for the popular sport Spearfishing and also charters for cruising the Bay.

Her name is 'Screaming Reels' and she is the very first Black Watch 40 that was built in Australia 1997. Constructed from fibreglass each side of a cedar core, ‘Screaming Reels’ is a little heavier than later models weighing in around 12 tonnes. Originally powered by 2 x 3208 CATs she now has 2 x 430 hp Cummings diesel motors giving her plenty of power. She is fully equipped with toilet, shower, kitchen, barbecue, 4-6 beds, game chair and most of what you can think of.

We picked her up from Yeppoon, Queensland on Australia’s east coast in the middle of the challenging cyclone season and spent around a week driving her down the coast to Newcastle. There she was put on a freight ship bound for Auckland New Zealand.

Legend skipper Hamish Faire has driven dozens of boats in his 28 years of charter fishing and says this one would have to be the best sea keeping boat in its class bar none. He says: “‘Screaming Reels’ rides the waves with ease and softness so makes for a very comfortable ride even in choppy conditions. She is also highly maneuverable so great for fighting game fish and for docking. I was also impressed with how dry this boat is with minimal spray reaching the top sides or cockpit even I blustery conditions.”

She is built as a sport fishing boat and we certainly looking forward to many fishing adventures on her!
